A Prairie or an Airport Chilis? It's Hard to Say
Ohio arms teachers and teaches others to do the same, hulk teen lifts car and more.
Bad news for a friend of The Rooster when a judge stripped the disgraced Sheriff of Pike County Charles Reader of his .50 caliber sniper rifle that he threatened to use against a journalist for the high crime of taking pictures on his property.
ENVIRONMENTALS VS. GLOBALISTS

Dayton has dealt with the Ku Klux Klan, a maniac murderer with an assault rifle and a torrent of tornadoes this year and it appears another schism is on the horizon as environmentalists are going to war against local government’s efforts to develop a prairie near Dayton International Airport which if you don’t know is a quality airport even without the prairie next to it being an Arby’s or check-in counter or whatever.
From Kevin Williams of nytimes.com:
Some see a field that could be repurposed for commercial use to bring a much needed economic boost to a struggling Rust Belt city. Others view it as an irreplaceable ecosystem that is part of Dayton’s identity.
The prairie, which is owned by the city, is at the center of a broader debate about airport land use nationwide. And in a city that has been roiled this year by a Ku Klux Klan rally, tornadoes and most recently a mass shooting, this smoldering controversy over a parcel of land is pitting two traditionally friendly constituencies —conservationists and the environmentally progressive Dayton city administration — against each other.
The struggle over the land has been jarring for Mr. Knoop, who brought in seeds from one of Ohio’s last remaining patches of native prairie to plant his namesake preserve in 1995 near Dayton International Airport. He thought the prairie would be permanent, but economic forces have been pressing against the tall grasses.
“The prairie was planted, and everyone loved it,” Mr. Knoop said.
I’m going to Hell for this but if this were a prairie that had actual historical significance than I might be inclined to get mad over its demolition. This probably means I condone climate change now and I’m sorry for that but let’s be real Dayton’s logistical location is an economic asset and at the end of the day we’re talking about a field where some white guy planted seeds 24 years ago. Make whatever entity will profit off the expansion pay for an equally sized prairie somewhere else in town — preferably the city’s core.
As thanks for solving this blood vendetta I would appreciate if a few Dayton city officials paid $5 a month to subscribe to my newsletter.
WE’RE TEACHING TEACHERS HOW TO SLANG THAT HEAT

I had a great public education and fondly reflect on the handful of teachers that instructed me in a way that allows me to pass as an educated person in 2019 despite not having a college degree.
I love those teachers to this day but if I’m being honest I don’t know if I would have entrusted any of them to dome-shot an active shooter which is a thing that happens in America.
But instead of maybe perhaps making it harder for maniacs to acquire murder machines the gun industry has helped proliferate an actual solution like turning a geometry teacher into a member of Seal Team-6.
From whyy.com:
Until May, Angie had never touched a gun. Now, she’s in the middle of three days of target practice, firearms skills, and tactical training run by the group FASTER Saves Lives.
And soon, if everything goes to plan, the fifth grade English and science teacher will be carrying a gun in her Ohio classroom.
“I volunteered,” she said. “Our district has armed staff to protect our students, and I was asked to join the program, so I agreed.”
Arming teachers to prevent or lessen the death toll of mass shootings is a controversial proposition, and the training teachers receive before being authorized to carry guns in the classroom is one of the biggest sources of debate.
..
Last fall, Joe Eaton traveled from Ohio to speak at a school board meeting in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania. The district was considering becoming the first in Pennsylvania to arm its teachers, and Eaton was there to promote FASTER Saves Lives, a course developed by an Ohio-based firearms association after the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
FASTER’s philosophy, emblazoned across its website and powerpoint presentations, is that the only way to stop a school shooting is for an armed “good guy” to disable the shooter as quickly as possible: “Time is all that matters.”
The nonprofit says police often can’t arrive quickly enough to end the carnage, that visibly armed guards will become targets for shooters, and that anonymously armed teachers are best equipped to serve as first responders.
“The non-profit says police often can’t arrive quickly enough to end the carnage” is an already depressing sentence before even considering every other country in the world doesn’t have this problem.
But I can’t say I’m surprised to see Ohio outsourcing gun industry propaganda to other states.
BEHOLD THE RAW POWER OF ZOOMERS

As I always say I don’t hang like hanging around teenagers because they don’t know how powerful they are. But one Zoomer named Zac recognized his primal power and saved a man’s life by lifting a car which is a thing that seems like a teen should not be able to do outside of a Marvel movie.
From Suzanne Stratford of fox8.com:
Zac Clark, 16, was doing yard work with his mother, Lora Clark, this past Saturday at their home in Butler when they suddenly heard their neighbors wife calling for help. They saw her husband pinned beneath their car.
“Without even hesitation, he darted, like sprinted over to the house,” Lora said.
“I guess the jack broke or slipped and the car fell on top of him from the waist up,” Zac said. “Only thing I could see was his legs and he was struggling.”
The 39-year-old father asked not to be identified. He told Fox 8 News he usually uses braces, but wasn't that day and the bumper was crushing his chest with another part of the car pushing down on his head.
Whether it was adrenaline or something else, Zac positioned his forearms underneath the 3,000-pound car and lifted it off of the man, saving his life.
No surprise the 39-year-old father didn’t want to be identified it’d be embarrassing to not only wreck your car but all of a sudden you owe your life to a teenager twice your size.
88 PRISONERS REGISTER TO VOTE

Ohio Republicans do their best to suppress as many people from voting in this state as they can which is why it’s always surprising to see a progressive voter registration drive even if it only nets 88 new voters.
From Dan DeRoos of cleveland19.com:
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) -Summit County Clerk of Court Sandra Kurt, along with several community activists, just finished a fall voter registration push at Summit County Jail.
Every state is different, but in Ohio the only inmates who can’t vote are those who are serving time for felonies.
Those who are awaiting trial, or those serving time for a misdemeanor can vote as long as they are registered and that’s where Kurt, the Love Akron Network, and key people like key people like Akron At-Large Councilman Jeff Fusco, Montrella Jackson Akron Clerk of Court office and Rebecca McCutcheon from the Sheriff’s Department come in.
“Some people who have interactions with law enforcement believe that no one cares about them, their welfare, or their opinions,” Kurt said. “Reaching out to those currently in jail demonstrates that we care about their rights and about their opinions. Simply seeing that someone cares enough to come to the jail to register them could give them a ray of hope to help them make better decisions going forward.”
I’m sure if someone took a poll most Americans would say prisoners shouldn’t be able to vote considering they could all unite against a presidential candidate who would legalize crime. To me that never made sense. Prisoners count in the census which determines the allocation of government resources. Let them vote.
DRONES DROPPING DRUGS INTO JAILS

Speaking about prisons apparently drones are growing in popularity as a way to smuggle drugs.
From Ed Gallek of fox8.com:
EUCLID, Ohio-- Investigators say video shows drugs and a phone dropped by a drone in a local jail as jailers nationwide worry more about drones.
The video comes from inside the Cuyahoga County Jail Euclid complex. In it, you can see inmates out for recreation, and one man starts staring up and wandering. He does that for about 20 seconds and then he tries to grab something falling from the sky. It hits the ground. Then he covers it with jail clothing, picks it up and walks away.
Cuyahoga County officials said a drone dropped marijuana and a phone. It happened in June, but it wasn’t discovered until days later.
The video was released to the FOX 8 I-Team on Tuesday.
Shame that prisoner risked all that for marijuana and a phone. Remind me not to commit a crime that could send me to prison because I would not do well under those draconian rules.
