While Pan was a crazy choice to give the speech, the choice of Robert Finch for my 1970 OSU commencement was equally bad form.We students had just been through several weeks of getting tear gassed and attacked by the state police, campus police, national guard. We showed up with peace signs on our mortar boards and did not give Nixon's HHS director a warm reception. Plenty of booing and hissing. The speech was not memorable. I fell asleep. Some read the newspaper.

In that instance, there's no question reading the newspaper was the better choice! I'm so sorry you experienced that added insult to injury.

In all seriousness, this is exactly how unprofessional OSU administrators are behind the scenes in every capacity. Folks have to understand there are people still from the 80s and 90s that won’t let go of power and positions here, with antiquated AF ideas about how things should run, and they hire mini versions of themselves because they never want to be questioned. That’s why with literally any scrutiny it’s very easy to uncover what a house of cards the flagship is.
