Don't Be a Scab, Call a Cab
Man charged with raping (and impregnating) 11-year-old, Cincinnati and Cleveland "no longer the armpits of America," and more.
Quitting alcohol eliminated my need for ride-share apps. Thankfully I didn’t delete Lyft until today, so I can send a message to the overlords that I stand in solidarity with drivers over profits.
Lyft, Uber, and Juno (???) drivers are striking worldwide today over low-wages. You can either use public transport, call a cab, or be a scab:
If don’t plan to use a ride-share app because you only use them before and/or after poisoning yourself with alcohol at a public place an unwalkable distance from your domicile, you can still send a message to the tech gremlins by uninstalling your apps (and tipping your drivers a few bucks on every ride when you return).
THE FUTURE OHIO’S GOVERNMENT WANTS FOR RAPE VICTIMS
Terrible, terrible story out of Massilon yesterday when a Guatemalan national had his day in court on charges of raping an 11-year-old.
From Amy L. Knapp of timesreporter.com:
MASSILLON A Massillon man accused of raping an 11-year-old girl will remain in the Stark County Jail on a $1 million bond.
Juan Leon-Gomez, 26, of 1327 Woodland Ave. SE, made his first court appearance Friday in Municipal Court. He faces charges of felony rape and obstructing officials business, a misdemeanor.
He was arrested Wednesday after the girl’s mother said she left without permission and contacted police. Massillon officers went to Leon-Gomez’s home and said they found them hiding in his bedroom closet.
…
Court paperwork indicates Leon-Gomez engaged in sexual conduct with the girl multiple times and she is pregnant. The girl, Ficther said, ran away from home before she was found.
Thank God that Ohio’s Caveman Abortion Ban hasn’t gone into effect, because if it had, the state would be forcing this victimized girl to carry her rapist’s baby to term (and financially support it at the matronly age of 11) unless her parents had the means to transport her to a state that values and respects women’s reproductive rights.
Thanks to the bright bulbs in the Republican party who have bequeathed these problems on rape victims. If their ilk is in Heaven, I’ll roll the dice in Hell.
STUPID MAN BACKTRACKS ON STUPID COMMENTS WITH STUPID EXCUSE
Stephen Moore, a partisan hack so unqualified he couldn’t earn a nomination from a Republican kingmaker like President Deals, made headlines during his failed run at the Federal Reserve Board due to past racist and misogynistic comments.
He also had a doozy where he called Cincinnati and Cleveland “the armpits of America,” which he now attributes to rabid support of Chicago’s shittiest baseball team.
From Stephen Moore of cincinnati.com:
When I was a nominee for the Federal Reserve Board, Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown attacked me for saying that "if you have to live in the Midwest, the place to live is Chicago." In that same speech, I took a tongue-in-cheek swipe at Cleveland and Cincinnati as "armpits."
I was acting like a homer when I said all this. I was raised in Chicagoland and practically grew up in Wrigley Field – and the Cincinnati Reds, in particular, were big rivals.
But that’s all in the past. I still love Chicago, but the city is so miserably mismanaged – bad schools, high taxes, high crime and legendary financial mismanagement, to name a few of the mounting problems – that it’s hard to brag about the Windy City anymore.
Meanwhile, Ohio is experiencing a long-overdue economic comeback. According to Jerry James, CEO of Artex Oil and a lifelong Ohioan, "This is the best economy I’ve seen in our state in my lifetime."
“I was raised in Chicagoland” — aka not Chicago. And while he blamed his Cincinnati baseball on the 19th century stick sport, I must’ve missed the historic rivalry between Chicago’s National League team and Cleveland’s American League team. You’ll notice Moore skipped over that part because his entire explanation is horseshit.
And yeah, when I look for the pulse of the economy I always turn to oil CEOs. Rich people don’t pay taxes in Ohio, so of course these pigs love their pawns in the Statehouse.
Meanwhile, we’re one of eight states that hasn’t recovered to pre-Recession tax income levels.

VOTERS DEAL BLOW TO LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT
Whenever I took the back roads to Piqua (Route 36 to Route 29 to Interstate 70), I always enjoyed going through the quaint town of St. Paris and marveling at the new school buildings the community built with a helping hand from Big Government.
About a week ago, I drove through St. Paris and noticed a bunch of anti-school levy signs and knew the district wouldn’t be investing in their children because for every anti-tax yokel willing to advertise their disgust of adequate education, there are always five more who will vote with them when the time comes.
Thanks to Ohio’s archaic (and illegal!) funding of schools, things just got harder for school officials.
From wtdn.com:
SAINT PARIS, Ohio (WDTN) – Tuesday, voters rejected a levy for Graham Local Schools, which officials are calling a “devastating blow” to the district.
“The district’s earned income tax proposal came up short for the 4th time. District officials will now consider next steps to communicate the need for a future levy issue of a different type. We will move forward with making the cuts already announced,” says Board President Ryan Pine.
Officials say if the levy had succeeded, it would have allowed the district to restore lost services from last year, including key staff members and transportation, reduce the fees imposed for activities and preschool, and add back some support services lost.
…
The district now faces $600,000 in additional cuts as well as student fee hikes for 2019-2020. Busing and operating budgets will be further reduced for 2019-2020.
I used to wonder why denizens wouldn’t support their local schools. How is a community expected to grow if it won’t invest in its future? Kids suffer shitty educations and flee the city at first opportunity.
Then I got older and realized that’s how a lot of old-timers want it. They’re fine living in small, sheltered communities and don’t give a damn about anyone else’s kids.
Needless to say, I doubt any Ohio’s brightest teachers or young families will be moving to St. Paris anytime soon.
NO, TALWANDA HIGH SCHOOL, YOU’RE NOT CANCELLED FOR THE YEAR
I was told “Cancel Culture” had run amok in America, but it hasn’t come to Oxford, Ohio just yet.
From daytondailynews.com:
OXFORD — Sorry, kids.
Classes are not canceled for the rest of the school year.
Talawanda Schools alerted the community Tuesday to a fake social media account posing as an affiliate account to the Talawanda School District.
The fake post claimed there were power outages at Talawanda High School, and that the school would be canceled for the rest of the year.
I remain grateful Twitter didn’t exist when I was in high school. I would probably be wearing a black bag over my head in Guantanamo Bay for 23 hours a day if it did.
MIKE LEACH: STILL AN ASSHOLE
Mike Leach, a MAGA chud who has accumulated millions of dollars on the back of unpaid Black labor, enjoys a cult of personality in college football because unlike a most college coaches, he’s not an obtuse dickhead with local media. He saves that for his players.
Washington State running back James Williams, a Toledo native, went undrafted after the NFL and Leach had advised him to stay in school. True to form, Leach couldn’t resist spiking the football on a player who had helped him stay employed.
From David Briggs of toledoblade.com:
When Williams was not selected in the draft, instead signing a free-agent deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, Leach appeared almost to take a victory lap. He shared on Twitter a list of the 49 underclassmen who went undrafted.
Williams then fired back — “How could you get mad at me leaving when you been trying to leave since I’ve been there?” he tweeted and deleted — and the cyber war was on. His agent, Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson, went so far last week as to accuse Leach of intentionally sabotaging Williams.
“Thank you @Coach_Leach for talking down [Williams’] NFL Draft stock nonstop since James declared,” Dickerson posted on Twitter. “Because of you… James was able to choose his dream team @Chiefs. Thank you for not helping James accomplish his goal of feeding his family… who were homeless only a few years ago.
“Because of you … James will be a great NFL running back. Thank you for thinking this is the 1980s where players have no voice. Because of you… players will unite from Hall of Famers to top high school recruits and protest your ways. ... We’re watching you ‘Coach’ Leach.”
If you’re ever famous enough to have an agent, get you one who will defend you like Eric Dickerson. College recruits should take note: Behind the quotatious Cougar coach lurks a Trump voter who is only loyal to himself.
