I sat down with Gene Krebs, whom I believe to be the most fascinating Republican in Ohio, last week. And not only because he casually dropped “scofflaw” into the conversation while talking about someone other than me.
Krebs is a former Preble County Commissioner, State Legislator and collegiate fencing coach—just to name a few titles he’s held throughout his life.
Krebs correctly stated that he couldn’t win a Republican primary in 2025 because he doesn’t hate enough. But he would also have trouble given his advocating for state investment into employee-owned cooperatives or his issues with modern zoning laws and how they segregate Americans by economic class.
In fact, over the course of 90 minutes, my primary disagreement came at the end when he labeled one of my political heroes, 19th century abolitionist John Brown, as a domestic terrorist. Hey, brother, that’s my insult to cavalierly throw around!
Be sure to follow Mr. Krebs on Twitter. I truly wish he was reflective of the modern Republican, because our country would be better for it.
