In other news, I have my eyes on the Queens District Attorney race today. (Thank you, President Deals, for politically poisoning my brain to the point I’m now emotionally invested in a local election that’s 550 miles from where I live).
June 25th belongs to 31-year-old public defender Tiffany Cabán, who is taking on the Queens political machine with a new vision for criminal justice.
I’m no fan of prosecutors, but that could change if more come in Cabán’s mold:
MOTHER OF SERIAL KILLER SLAIN, THREE CHILDREN INJURED
We begin today with the kind of uplifting story you might expect to find within the confines of this humble newsletter: An 18-year-old stabbing the mother of a convicted serial killer and attacking three sleeping children before hiding in the victim’s shower until the cops came.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The man accused of fatally stabbing the mother of serial killer Michael Madison and the stabbing of three sleeping children will be jailed on $2 million bond.
Jalen Plummer, 18, is charged with aggravated murder in the Saturday stabbing death of his 62-year-old grandmother, Diane Madison. He is also charged with felonious assault for stabbing his 10-year-old sister, 12-year-old brother and 10-year-old cousin as they slept, according to police and court records.
Diane Madison was found dead inside their home on Chicasaw Avenue near East 200th Street in the city’s North Shore-Collinwood neighborhood.
Cleveland Municipal Judge Lauren Moore set Plummer’s bond during his first court appearance on Monday.
The stabbings happened about 12:15 a.m. Saturday, police said. The three children ran from the home to a neighbor’s house. A neighbor called 911.
Word to any aspiring serial killers out there: Even if your mom is murdered in her sleep by another psychopath, media outlets will still primarily identify her as the mother of a serial killer. Just some food for thought before embarking on a murderous path.
But this wasn’t Diane Madison’s first rodeo, either. During the trial of her son (ultimately convicted of murdering three women), defense attorneys said Diane beat her son with an extension cord, forced food down his throat until he vomited and had a boyfriend that beat her son until he was deaf in one ear.
I’d be shocked if Jalen Plummer didn’t have a similar abusive background.
DATING A 12-YEAR-OLD WAS THE FIRST WARNING SIGN
When I was a senior in high school, I had a classmate that attended the middle school’s dance. We roasted that kid alive, and he deserved every ounce of it because guys who date super young women are creepy. (I don’t know what happened to that guy either, but I’d bet he takes sex vacations to the Philippines.)

Prosecutors say the killing of a 12-year-old Newark girl was intentional.
The shooting happened Friday night on Ridgelawn Avenue in Newark.
Police say Isabella Barnes, who would have entered seventh grade in the fall, was on her front porch when she was shot in the head.
They say the person responsible was 18-year-old Keegan Mummey, who appeared in court Monday via video link.
"Your Honor, this is an aggravated murder, which carries with it mandatory prison time of life in prison," said prosecutor Paula Sawyers.
She says there were multiple witnesses to the shooting.
"We know that he went there with the gun that night, and according to what we've put in the complaint, he pointed it at her head, directly to her head and pulled the trigger. There is no way this was accidental or they were just playing around with a gun and it went off."
Sawyers says at some point, the two had been in some sort of relationship.
These stories only happen in America thanks to the ambiguous language a bunch of power-hungry slave-owners used when crafting the Second Amendment. Surely an 18-year-old named Keegan who was romantically involved with a 12-year-old is exactly what they meant with the phrase “a well-regulated militia.”
What a waste of two human lives.
BUSINESS OWNERS SCARED OF PANHANDLERS
The Supreme Court struck down most anti-panhandling laws in 2015, and the progressive politicians that run Columbus vowed to craft new legislation that punished poor people for having the audacity to ask for change in public places.
They haven’t found that balance, and business owners are starting to complain to any media outlet that will listen.

Last year, Dr. James Ford said panhandlers were intimidating patients entering and leaving his Downtown dentist’s office.
This year, Ford said, nothing has changed.
“The panhandling has not gotten any better,” said Ford, whose office is at the southeast corner of North High and East Long streets.
“They’re more aggressive,” he said. “A lot of loitering. They’re sleeping or passed out on the sidewalks, on both sides of the building.”
He said one person slept against his window for eight hours. When he called police, Ford said the officer told him that he couldn’t do anything because the sidewalk is a public right-of-way.
Columbus police spokeswoman Chantay Boxill said in an email that Cmdr. Terry Moore, who oversees the Downtown area, told her that he has not heard from officers that there has been an increase in panhandling Downtown. From May 1, 2018, through May 30, 2019, Columbus police responded to about 280 panhandling-related calls in the Downtown area and parts of the Short North, Italian Village, Victorian Village and Harrison West.
It says a lot about our society that when droves of homeless people, many of whom suffer from untreated mental illness, appear in the public square our first instinct is to try to make them go literally anywhere else.
Systemic poverty and untreated illness isn’t the problem, it’s the people who won’t go work at Moe’s Grill for $7.35 an hour.
This is why Dublin is building their own version of the Short North, because its residents are tired of going to the Short North and being reminded that homeless people exist while walking between boutiques and art galleries.
I’m of the opinion that if you’re at the point in life where you’ve decided to beg for cash, I’ll toss you a buck or whatever spare change I have in my pocket because you obviously need it more than me.
America loves to boast about what a Christian country we are, and how we’re ordained by God to hold dominion over the entire planet. But I don’t think Jesus would be on the side of a dentist looking to install anti-homeless architecture to keep vagrants from sleeping outside his office.
RECREATIONAL DRUG USERS CAN DIE TOO
Politicians love to pretend that the opioid crisis will solve itself if we ignore it long enough.
Meanwhile, cops are warning that recreational drug users are dying now, too.

Late in May, Tom Fallon, investigative commander for the heroin task force, said investigators learned that a drug supplier was mixing fentanyl with meth and then adding red, yellow or blue food coloring and pressing the mixture into a pill form to be sold as ecstasy.
The task force has also found other fake pressed-pills sold on the street as pain pills in recent months that were tainted with fentanyl.
Fallon also said investigations of recent deaths have indicated that crack cocaine has been mixed with fentanyl and has caused overdoses in the region.
The county along with several others in Ohio has seen a general increase in overdoses and OD deaths since April, often tied to weekends. The timing indicates to investigators that some of those affected are recreational drug users who are not addicted to opioids, Synan said.
When America banned alcohol, Americans responded by drinking bootleg gasoline liquor out of strangers bathtubs and dying. America then repealed Prohibition and now nobody has to question the ingredients in their alcohol, the substance that can make you insane in a single sitting or ruin your life after alcoholism takes over.
Eventually we’ll realize that 25% of Americans are going to do drugs whether they’re coming from a pharmacy or some aspiring Heisenberg who watched a couple hours of YouTube videos.
Portugal decriminalized drugs and usage went down. Mexico could soon follow. Meanwhile, in America, we have a small army of scumbags pumping fentanyl into every imaginable street narcotic and killing addicts and recreational users alike.
FUCK IT, LET’S TALK BUTTERFLIES
The Ohioan of the Day is Joel Hunt, who makes the mostly boring journeys along Ohio’s interstates more scenic and environmentally friendly while also saving taxpayers money on mowing expenses!

Hunt administrates the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Pollinator Habitat Program, which launched in 2011 as a pilot and since expanded to cover about 800 acres of roadside in 45 counties.
The effort is three-pronged, Hunt says. It turns Ohio’s freeways into healthier environments for wildlife while also beautifying the state. It even saves money by cutting down on the amount of mowing required.
“Last year it saved $2.2 million, and this year we expect that number to go significantly higher because we really got this program going in the middle of last year and we’ve been planting steadily over the winter and all this spring,” Hunt says.
If the next sports franchise in Ohio isn’t nicknamed the Spiderworts, we’ve made a grave mistake. Sure, it might sound like an STD, but it’s actually a cool plant. And at the very least a cool plant makes for a better mascot than the racist cartoon “Chief” Wahoo.
