Well well well. It turns out I typed myself into a bit of a pickle. I made high promises last week about my girlfriend ignoring the rubies at her feet to proof-read the daily dispatches from the depths of my mental illness.
Easier said than done. We went to the Greater Akron this weekend to bark with my boys Junkyard Pete and Fantasy Island. Next thing I know, it’s 2 a.m. Sunday morning and I’m suddenly understanding why saltwater pools ruin any other kind of pool.
Anyway, she had more important things to do yesterday than reading the ramblings of a madman. Her watch begins tomorrow, so you’re going to have to deal with my typos for one more day. I’m sorry.
MORE PSYCHOTIC BEHAVIOR FROM THOSE SWORN TO SERVE AND PROTECT
The Columbus Division of Police likes to present themselves as the thin blue line protecting everyday Americans from chaos and anarchy. The truth is they are the biggest crybabies in the city who will fire you from your job and blackball you from future employment with the city over a benign Facebook post.
From Andy Downing of columbusalive.com:
Shortly thereafter, Sykes logged into Facebook and dashed off a quick post on the public group Columbus Black Owned Businesses. “CPD has just been made aware of the protest scheduled for tonight,” she wrote. “I work in headquarters and just overheard them. They are already dispatching units. Be careful tonight.” Sykes ended the message with a “praying hands” emoji, signed out of her Facebook account and resumed her shift. As she worked, the post quickly spread, generating 85 shares and more than 100 comments, Sykes said, eventually attracting the attention of higher-ups within CPD, who approached her while she was in the break room later during her shift, sometime before 6 p.m.
This is what qualifies as “anti-police rhetoric” in this godforsaken city. And while CDP officers have no problems watching their coworkers beat innocent peaceful protestors, they will go out of their way to snitch on a colleague for the high crime of wearing a Back Lives Matter t-shirt.
Redman also included a photograph Sykes posted of Detective Bob Biehl, whom she termed a friend. In the photograph, Biehl poses wearing a T-shirt designed by Sykes that reads “ALLY” in block letters set above the words ”#blacklivesmatter.” In sharing the picture, Sykes wrote, “One of my satisfied, white and ALLY customers! This is a really great guy here and he’s one of the men in blue!”
Grizzell made special note of the Biehl photograph in her initial email. “ALSO, on her page was a picture of Detective Bob Biehl wearing a BLM Ally shirt with a narrative from [Sykes] about how he is supporting the movement,” Grizzell wrote. “I’ve copied Cmdr. [Scott] Hyland on here ... for action as he sees fit.”
Good to know that in cop world, supporting Black Lives Matter is considered being presented as a “narrative.” Meanwhile, smearing a dead black woman who was murdered by police in her own bed is considered kosher:
Let’s be clear with what is happening here. Let’s pretend for a second that Breonna Taylor was managing money for a drug dealer. (She wasn’t.) In the mind of Officer Conley, that gives the Louisville Police Department the right to extrajudicially murder her while she slept in her own bed. It would be hilarious if I didn’t suddenly remember that this guy has a badge and a gun.
Will anything happen to him for posting racist smears online? Absolutely not.
THAT YARN ABOUT THAT TIME I SPENT POOLSIDE AT THE ROYAL SONESTA ON BOURBON STREET
Shelley Meyer doesn’t understand why her husband can’t support fascists after making millions on the backs of the unpaid labor of predominantly black labor.
I’m reminded of the time In March 2018 where I was drinking poolside at the Royal Sonesta in New Orleans. This gentleman notices my Ohio tattoo on my ribcage and we strike up a conversation.
Turns out he is originally from Dayton but lives in Gainesville, Florida and operates some gyms. He mentions that he once had to fire his best personal trainer because he wouldn’t stop fucking Urban Meyer’s wife.
“This is when Urban was popular down there,” he explained. “I couldn’t risk the drama.”
It was a simpler time in America, for sure.
