Phil Plummer defends putting “gross and disgusting” Rodney Creech on county slate

The bigger question remains: What did Speaker Matt Huffman know, and when did he know it? 🧐🧐🧐

Last week, The Rooster spoke to State Rep. Rodney Creech, who explained why he thought it was normal for a father to climb into bed with his teenage daughter multiple times while only wearing underwear.

Creech lost his committee assignments and rebuffed Speaker Matt Huffman when he asked Creech to resign from the Ohio House over allegations he climbed into bed with his teenager daughter in his underwear and with an erect penis.

Creech painted the allegations as a political hit job peddled by Assistant Speaker Pro Tempore Phil Plummer, a likely opponent to Creech’s since-declared candidacy for Ohio’s Fifth Senate District.

It’s my opinion that two things can be true. Creech can be a creep who was ultimately protected by his political friends in Preble County, while Plummer only pushed the allegations when it became apparent that Creech also planned to run for State Senate.

From Avery Kreemer and Josh Sweigart of Dayton Daily News:

“So, to me, that’s disgusting and uncalled for,” Plummer told state investigators. “I’m not sure if it’s a total criminal element here, but it’s uncalled for. I mean, as a father myself, I think it’s just appalling. Those are the statements he made directly to me.”

Plummer, who chairs the Montgomery County Republican Party, still included Creech on his party’s slate endorsement card months after his cooperation with state investigators. Creech won with 77% of the vote. Before that, Creech ran unopposed in the March 2024 primary.

If Plummer, who also doubles as the Montgomery County Republican Party’s chairman, thinks Creech’s behavior was “disgusting and uncalled for,” why would he turn around and put Creech on the county Republican slate months later?

It’s not like Creech got accused of fixing a bingo game or interstate speeding. Creech’s daughter accused him of multiple incidents of gross sexual misconduct, which Plummer found credible enough to take to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

I spoke with Plummer yesterday when he hilariously made us walk outside the Statehouse so as not to violate all-important ethics rules about “talking politics” on government time.

You can view our entire conversation here, where Plummer says Creech tried to intimidate him by obtaining audio of Plummer’s testimony to the BCI, as well as why Speaker Huffman only stripped Creech of his committee assignments when the allegations were set to hit the papers:

Give Plummer this much: I’ve never seen a state legislator consult their phone to read talking points during an interview with me. I take that as a compliment.

Nevertheless, I’ve submitted a public records request for Plummer’s texts and emails in an attempt to learn who compiled those talking points for him, because it doesn’t strike me as something Plummer would do on his own.

Until then, you almost have to marvel at the power that Huffman holds over his beautiful stooges in the House. The only thing that Plummer and Creech seem to agree upon is that Huffman had no knowledge of any alleged wrongdoing until the moment he stripped Creech of any power in Columbus.

It’s curious to say the least, and we’ll have to wait and see if the public records support that claim. If there are no relevant public records, it would seem that House leadership has found a way to circumvent communication channels susceptible to public records requests, which would be another issue entirely.
