FBI INDICTS INFAMOUSLY CORRUPT COLUMBUS VICE COP
Behold the bald mug of Andrew K. Mitchell, a Columbus vice cop who spent more than three decades with local police.
At some point in his career, Mitchell decided to use his badge as a shield to rape sex workers. The FBI arrested him yesterday before a federal grand jury indicted him on seven counts.
From Gabe Rosenberg of wosu.org:
A Justice Department press release recounts three particular instances of Mitchell's behavior. In July 2017, Mitchell allegedly kidnapped a victim under the guise of an arrest, transported them to another location, and forced them to perform oral sex.
Mitchell allegedly forced a second victim to have vaginal sex in September 2017. In the summer of 2018, Mitchell allegedly kidnapped the second victim under the guise of an arrest, transported them to another location, and forced them to have anal sex in exchange for their freedom.
Authorities allege Mitchell attempted to tamper with two witnesses in the federal case, and attempted to "influence, delay and prevent the testimony of a fifth victim in an official proceeding before a federal grand jury."
Mitchell is also charged with providing false information to FBI agents in September 2018, claiming he "had never had sex with a prostitute." Authorities allege Mitchell has engaged in sex with multiple prostitutes and paid money for sex.
If convicted, Mitchell could spend the rest of his life in jail. And what’s wild is these charges don’t include the suspected August murder of Donna Dalton, a 120-pound sex worker whom Mitchell attempted to pull into an unmarked police car without identifying himself.
When Daton defended herself by stabbing Mitchell in the hand, the police veteran retaliated by fatally shooting her three times.
A local grand jury will soon decide whether to indict Mitchell on those charges. In the meantime, the Columbus Police Department should have to explain how it deputized a monster that preyed on the most vulnerable members of the society he pledged to protect.
Either way, the “complicated legacy” of recently retired police chief Kim Jacobs just got more complicated.
TAXPAYERS TO FOOT BILL FOR RENOVATIONS OF MANSION IN WHICH THEY DON’T LIVE
A neat thing about humans is we insist upon erecting marvelous mansions for our elected leaders to live in for free.
Ohio is no exception. Our governor’s mansion is one of the nicest in the Midwest. However, it wasn’t nice enough for former governor John Kasich, who refused to reside in the notorious slum of Bexley.
Due to the “neglect,” new governor Mike DeWine, a multimillionaire, has tabbed $2 million for renovations.
From Randy Ludlow of dispatch.com:
Ohio has set aside $2 million to repair the state-owned Governor’s Residence in Bexley, which is once again occupied by the first couple after former Gov. John Kasich opted not to live in the mansion during his eight years in office.
First up to help ensure the safety of Gov. Mike DeWine and first lady Fran is replacing the rotting 95-foot-long decorative pergola and the portico to which it attaches at the rear of the North Parkview Avenue residence.
The nearly $700,000 project to replace the once-vine-covered pergola and the portico is not strictly a matter of aesthetics. The portico and the pergola, which is partially boarded on top, serve as the only fire escape from the second floor of the residence.
Plans call for replacing rotting timbers in both structures with steel and then facing them with cedar boards to match the existing appearance, said Brian Hammen, a senior facility manager with the Department of Administrative Services.
Here’s an idea: We should either bulldoze the governor’s mansion or turn it into a homeless shelter.
If we still insist upon building homes for governors, perhaps we build one at the median price of Ohio homes, which is $139,000. If that’s not fancy enough, the governor would be welcome to furnish their own housing like the rest of us.
OHIO LOOKING TO SHED FRONT LICENSE PLATES
Ohio legislatures are looking to save the state $1.4 million (governor mansion renovations won’t pay for themselves, after all) by nixing the requirement for drivers to display a front license plate.
From Laura Bischoff of mydaytondailynews.com:
COLUMBUS — Eliminating the requirement that motorists have a front vehicle plate could save Ohio roughly $1.4 million a year, according to analysis from the Legislative Service Commission.
The Ohio House voted this week in favor of the $7.9 billion two-year transportation budget bill that includes a provision to eliminate the front plate mandate.
Joe Cannon, lobbyist for the Ohio Automobile Dealers Association, told state representatives and senators that in addition to saving money, eliminating the plate would further safety.
Technology such as parking guides, adaptive cruise control and cameras is integrated into front bumpers, he said. “It is becoming more difficult to install front plates without impairing the safety features on these vehicles,” Cannon said in written testimony.
According to the article, local governments could lose between $120,000 and $240,000 a year in foregone revenue from ticketing drivers for failure to display a front license plate.
I’ve always figured cops would be against a move like this considering it would make identifying cars involved in the commissioning of crimes that much harder.
As it turns out, the Ohio Chiefs of Police, the State Highway Patrol, the Sheriff’s Association, and the Fraternal Order of Police all opposed pass efforts to remove the front license plate.
OHIO’S DUMBEST STATE REP AT IT AGAIN
Niraj Antani, a politician who has never had to campaign after “earning” an appointment to represent a gerrymandered district, regularly spews legislation written by right-wing think tanks and special interest groups.
The latest abomination involves roping the Department of Health into shaming women considering an abortion. Niraj, ostensibly a small-government, free-market guy, would also require schools and restaurants and healthcare facilities to post government-mandated messages in restrooms.
What’s wild is every person I’ve met that knows Niraj, whether they be Republican or Democrat, has nothing positive to say about him. Odds are he’s the most powerful incel in the state, and his gerrymandered position allows him to dictate healthcare policy to women because that’s what his Baby Boomers demand.
CINCINNATI GANG PLANS TO STIFF TAXPAYERS
I’ve about had it with Cincinnati Democrats. First, Aftab Pureval’s congressional campaign imploded like a dying star. Then you have the five schmucks on the nine-member city council that violated basic government ethics laws via text message.
Four convicted members have pledged to repay $200 each, while Wendell Young (second from right in header photo) hasn’t addressed the matter.
That might satisfy $800 of the $1,000 the Gang of Five owes for misconduct. That doesn’t mean they’re close to paying what they owe.
From Jacob Fisher of cincinnati.com:
The $800 contribution offered by council members to date represents a fraction of the $101,000 in fines and legal fees incurred by the city in a settlement for the five council members, who were charged with secretly conducting public business via text messages.
Council members did not indicate any plans to split the tab on the remaining $100,200, meaning those fees will be paid by taxpayers.
Violate rudimentary ethics laws. Destroy evidence. Then stick taxpayers with a six-digit bill incurred from your petty crimes.
These bums shouldn’t be allowed to wear the (D) next to their name if they run again, and frankly I’m embarrassed the Hamilton County Democratic Party chose to play the victim card rather than do what’s right.
It’s not like these goofs are the only five in the county capable of sitting on city council.
