Rooster in Review: Columbus cops keep criming
Another Columbus cop hit with federal charges for what one local outlet baffling described as having "encounters" with women while on duty.
Today’s dispatch was about the Columbus Division of Police’s farcical investigation into one of their former colleagues.
Demetris Ortega, a 22-year veteran of the force, is currently serving a 1.5-year prison sentence near Toledo for slaying a young mother in a cross walk while driving home drunk from a shitty suburban bar.
That sentence would’ve been a lot longer had Ortega’s former colleagues been interested in actually investigating the crash. It’s another chapter in the long and storied history of the CDP being unwilling or unable to properly investigate police officers who commit crimes.
And wouldn’t you know it? We got another example this morning.
From Bethany Bruner of dispatch.com:
A federal grand jury handed up charges against a Columbus police officer accused of destroying evidence, including body cam footage, after a sexual encounter with a woman while on duty.
Nicholas Duty, 35, was arrested Friday morning and is expected to have his first appearance in U.S. District Court Friday afternoon, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.
Duty is charged with destroying or altering records related to a criminal investigation, a crime that carries a potential maximum sentence of up to 20 years in federal prison if convicted.
It’s worth noting that, absent of the meddling FBI, that Officer Duty (lmao) would have most likely been able to continue his crime spree.
The same goes for the two Columbus cops caught running fentanyl for the cartels and the other two cops caught stealing cocaine from evidence lockers to sell on the street.
As of this writing around 11:30 a.m. Friday morning, Mayor Suburbs has yet to comment on the bungled investigation into the vehicular homicide or the cop arrested for what 10TV baffling described as “encounters with women.”
In Mayor Suburbs’ defense, he knows he’ll resign before the end of his term to appoint City Council president Shannon Hardin to the role. The Mayor is probably more concerned with which lobbying firm is going to pay him the most amount of money when he leaves public office.
City Council loathes him. The State Legislature wants him tried for treason.

This week in Ohio Man…
A cool feature of current American society is a large number of the population lives in deep paranoia. Even worse, many in that population can legally obtain murder machines as they see it as the one thing to keep their family “safe” despite violent crime falling fast in America.
We got a sick example this week in South Charleston, where an octogenarian senselessly murdered a Black Uber driver who he thought was involved in some sort of scam.
He was wrong!
From Mirna Alsharif of nbcnews.com:
An 81-year-old Ohio man has been charged in the fatal shooting of an Uber driver he believed was working with a scammer, according to officials who said the victim was sent to the home by the same scammer.
William Brock told investigators he shot Loletha Hall, 61, outside his home March 25 because he thought she was working with a man who called him pretending to be an officer at the local court, Lt. Kristopher Shultz of the Clark County Sheriff's Office said.
"Mr. Brock received some scam call by a person purporting to be someone from our courts who informed him a family member was incarcerated and that he had a bond of a significant amount of money," Shultz said. "The calls turned from 'I'm an officer in the court' to 'We have this subject hostage, this is a ransom demand.'"
The person who called Brock, or an accomplice, requested an Uber ride to his South Charleston home to pick up the money, Shultz said.
"Ms. Hall did not have any idea," he added.
What’s heartbreaking about this is knowing that Mr. Brock wouldn’t have been so quick to pull the trigger on a white man, or any sort of man in general. But a Black woman? Well, I don’t think we need to work hard to guess Mr. Brock’s politics.
But only in America can you shoot a woman in the back and claim it was an act of self-defense! I hate it here sometimes.
This week in The Rooster…
I biked to Cincinnati and all I got was this stupid blog post. Lessons learned on the Ohio to Erie Trail during a 144.9-mile journey in which I didn’t even pack tools to fix a flat tire. Sometimes you have to let go and let God!
We used to be a proper country. The Statehouse’s most untrustworthy labor lobbyist and a coalition of polite racists are about to learn who really runs Capitol Square.
Blood in the street. The Columbus Division of Police once again proves unwilling or unable to investigate crimes committed by one of their own. Will local media learn its lesson? Probably not!
THOSE WMDs. The deep ocean has become a dumping ground… A victim’s father in an infamous cold case yearns to know who killed his son… The vicious loop of blood and oil… The impossible case of the Pimlico poisoning… What happens to all the stuff we return?
