Rooster in Review: The Rooster's Alma Mater Disgraces Itself
A local small business tyrant made some teenagers cry over his anti-gay diatribe disguised as a graduation speech.
River Valley Schools has the proud distinction of certifying The Rooster as officially educated as required by the great state of Ohio. Honestly, it was a dereliction of duty that they allowed me to graduate but that’s a topic for another day.
If you had asked me prior to today about River Valley, I would have said something like, “Well, it certainly was a school.” Not that I hated it or anything; I have plenty of friends to this day that I made when I chose to attend River Valley after being exiled from Marion Harding for posting general dipshittery on the-rooster.com. (Again, another topic for another day.)
But, my God, knowing there was no way the teachers at River Valley would want me in their classrooms for another year, there’s no way I would have sat through a graduation lecture from some right-wing small business tyrant who also somehow sits on the Marion County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
From David Badash of alternet.org:
“Choose a spouse, I suggest. I also strongly suggest to make sure to choose biblical principles, you know a male with a female and female with a male,” urged Jim McGuire, a local businessman, and alumnus of the public school.
McGuire did not only condemn same-sex marriage, he advised graduates to not “diminish or play down biblical principles,” and implied Christianity is the one true religion that the world is based upon:
“Everyone in every country in this planet lives by [the] calendar that was based on 2022 years ago, it was established by Jesus Christ, and we need to remember that.”
Does free speech allow this dinosaur to stand up there and talk God to the TikTok generation? Sure, whatever. But the free speech also extends to the community who want to tell this man to take his worldview back to the Jurassic Era where it belongs.
Did the school apologize for failing to screen the speech of an outspoken Christian conservative? Absolutely not.
District Superintendent Adam Wickham issued a statement that not only does not apologize for subjecting its graduates and their guests to condemnation of LGBTQ people and same-sex relationships and marriage, but also apparent religious proselytizing.
Good stuff. Any time you can defend some random crank with no other connection to the High School over your own LGBTQ students, you have to do it!
This week in an “Ohio Man” … A Canal Winchester hustler faces up to 20 years in prison on 18 of the money laundering accounts, and 10 years on each of the other 17 counts for his participation in a romance scam outfit that netted him over a million dollars.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A federal jury has found a Canal Winchester man guilty for his involvement in romance scams where he made off with over $1 million from victims on dating websites.
Seth Nyamekye, 39, was convicted of 35 counts of money laundering crimes for managing a bank account for a romance scammer ring. Nyamekye worked with others in the group from at least June 2016 to February 2018 and received at least eight victims’ money directly to his bank account, according to Southern District of Ohio U.S. Attorney Kenneth Parker.
The romance scam ring had several fake accounts on dating websites and would connect with men and women around the U.S., getting them romantically attached before convincing them to send money, for investment or help, to different bank accounts of the fraudster’s choice. Nyamekye managed one of these bank accounts — under the name Gloseth Ventures LLC — and personally saw $1.3 million sent from people conned by fake profiles, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Apparently Nyamekye’s top tactic was impersonating overseas troops and getting victims to send payments in amounts like $170,000 or $73,000 or $50,000. Kind of genius to use Americans’ troop worship against them, but what’s not very smart is being a cyber criminal and routinely withdrawing amounts of cash north of $10,000 and moving that money into other accounts associated with your scam.
The federal government watches that kind of thing, as Nyamekye found out this week.
This week in The Rooster…
Just Ignore Them. Ohio’s cities need leaders that recognize the state government as illegitimate.
Their Only Answer is More Slaughter. Ohio is a textbook study in how reactionaries will use dead children to further their political goals.

State Rep. Jena Powell (R-Arcanum) Wants to Make It Easier for Strangers to Fondle Your Child’s Genitals. It might sound ludicrous to say the Ohio House wants children to be sexually assaulted, but that’s exactly what transpired.
And remember, you can follow The Rooster on Twitter for all of Ohio’s insanity, all the time.
Enjoy the weekend, folks!
THOSE WMDs. A European country helped the FBI intercept Anom messages, but it wants to remain hidden… How to be less judgmental… What bullets do to bodies… When the heat is unbearable and there’s nowhere to go… The fugitive next door.
