Rooster: Jail Treats Innocent People the Same
Superintendent rapes multiple students, vet launches hunger strike over flag disrespect, and more.
The reactions to Elizabeth Warren’s sublime student debt cancellation policy proved once again there are only two types of people in the world: Those that suffer and don’t want anyone else to go through that nonsense, and those that suffer and demand others go through the wringer as well.
It’s best to avoid the latter group as much as possible. They’re pricks who wallow in human misery.
JAIL DOESN’T GIVE A SHIT IF YOU’RE INNOCENT
Jail is a calamitous experience for people who committed the crime that sent them there. It’s worse for innocent people, because they too have their life turned upside down in the exact same way.
Such is what happened to an Ohio woman wrongly accused of trafficking heroin.
From Stefano DiPietrantonio and Cameron Knight of cincinnati.com:
After seven days in jail, a Brown County mother is free, but her life is still in chaos. She says she's lost her job and her children, all due to a case of mistaken identity on the part of the Aberdeen Police Department.
It started on April 11 in the parking lot of Target on Beechmont Avenue when Ashley Foster was approached by a Hamilton County deputy.
“I told him my name was Ashley, he asked me to step out of the car. They said, ‘Do you know you have a warrant out for your arrest?’ And I said, ‘No! What did I do?' He said it was for trafficking heroin and I broke down in the parking lot – on the ground crying," said Foster.
A warrant had been issued for her arrest out of Brown County. The deputies had run her license plate during a normal patrol, and that plate was flagged.
People read stories like this an automatically assume it ends with a six-figure payday at the expense of John Q. Public. Not so fast! You have to be tried, convicted, and sentenced to prison to earn a payday like that — and even that’s not guaranteed.
Stories like this prove what a mess our criminal justice system is, and how easy it is for people to have their lives changed forever because they engaged in petty crime.
HOW TO LOSE YOUR $95,000 SALARY
Laura Amero probably isn’t what most people picture when they hear the word “pedophile.”
From thisweekinews.com:
WINDHAM — An Ohio school superintendent is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old male student and attempting to have sexual relations with another student.
Windham schools Superintendent Laura Amero has been charged with having sex with one high school boy in 2017 when he was 16 and a student, and attempting to have sexual relations with another student when he was 16 and 17 between 2015 and 2017, according to an indictment filed in Portage County Common Pleas Court.
Amero, 35, is also facing two third-degree felony counts of sexual battery in connection with one of the victims, now age 18, two fourth-degree felony counts of attempted sexual battery in connection with the second victim, now 19, and two first-degree misdemeanor counts of intimidation of a crime victim or witness. The intimidation allegedly took place March 28, according to court records.
Uh, a 35-year-old can’t have “sexual relations” with a 16-year-old. They can only rape a 16-year-old.
Ms. Amero clearly suffers from a brain disease, because there is no world in which multiple teenage boys sleep with the superintendent and keep their mouths shut. The only surprise is it took multiple victims before the long arm of the law knocked on her door.
VET LAUNCHES HUNGER STRIKE OVER FLAG DISRESPECT
I’m always suspicious of white males — it’s always white males — demanding that strangers respect America’s flag, as if our country could be distilled into a piece of cloth most likely manufactured in China.
However, it’s crass to fly a non-compliant flag outside a museum dedicated to American veterans.
From Marc Kovac of dispatch.com:
John Skaggs voiced his concern on a comment card, sent an email, even talked to a U.S. senator about the deteriorating state of the flags on display outside the National Veterans Memorial and Museum in Columbus.
When he didn’t get an adequate response, he decided Monday to launch a hunger strike near the flagpoles outside the West Broad Street building.
Thankfully, the U.S. Navy veteran missed only breakfast and lunch. Museum staffers were unfurling new flags by midday.
“I’m going to go eat,” he said shortly thereafter.
Skaggs, 49, who lives in the Kenmore Park area of the city’s North Linden neighborhood, was among local veterans who were unhappy with the state of Old Glory, the POW/MIA banner and service flags outside the museum, with frayed edges blowing in the wind in clear violation of protocol and etiquette and displaying “total disrespect” for those who have served.
Thank God the staffers got that issue sorted. Not sure the museum could’ve recovered from the P.R. disaster that would’ve been a Navy veteran starving himself to death over a display of a tattered Old Glory.
NANNY STATE LOOKING TO REGULATE TATTOO ARTISTS
Tattoos are more popular than ever and will continue to gain acceptance as more boomers shuffle off our mortal coil.
However, Governor Mike DeWine isn’t going down without a fight! He is proposing new regulation on the industry.
From Tyler Arnold of watchdog.org:
A provision in Gov. Mike DeWine’s budget proposal would require a $250 licensing fee for tattoo artists and body piercers, ear piercing excluded. The fee would be a per-person fee, not a per-facility fee.
The provision also would make training requirements more uniform and subject to state oversight. Although the state does not license body artists, Ohio already requires certain levels of training, which are enforced at the local level by health departments.
The Ohio Department of Health has been pushing for a more centralized and uniform approach to these regulations for years. But despite citing health concerns as the primary motivation, the department does not have any numbers suggesting a health epidemic stemming from either qualified or unqualified body artists.
Judging from the tattoo parlors sprouting around Piqua alone, the state stands to gain $50,000,000 from this new revenue stream. I can’t hate on the proposal. If you have to be licensed to cut people’s hair, you should definitely have to be licensed to permanently paint somebody’s body. Will this idea cut down on the number of trash tattoos? Probably not, but it’s worth a shot.
AN “INVESTIGATION,” YOU SAY?
Don’t think a jury will need to see much more than this picture to convict the driver of driving under the influence. Hope the drive has insurance, because that bill will be a day-ruiner.
THOSE WMDs. How TurboTax tricked you into paying to file your taxes… I stabbed a Toronto raccoon; do not do that… The man behind the Yonge Street van attack… Skiing and partying at the world’s most dangerous race… I work with suicidal farmers; it’s becoming too much to bear.
