School choice doesn't do anything for most of Ohio's students

As a normal person in Ohio, you probably never walk around declaring things like, “It’s time for Texas to fund students, not systems!”

You probably don’t have the time or finances to concern yourself with life in Texas.

Unfortunately for you, there’s a deranged Texan freak currently hell-bent on destroying our public education system as we know it.

Here comes Corey DeAngelis, one of the leading “school choice” advocates in the country. His Twitter notes that he was on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, which means that his parents are wealthy and there’s a good chance he’ll one day be convicted of massive financial fraud.

A “senior fellow” at something called the American Federation for Children he once wondered out loud if “school shootings are more likely to occur in public schools” mere months after the Parkland High School massacre.

DeAngelis also spends a lot of time on Fox News yelling about teachers’ unions, the working-class organizations comprised of underpaid professionals that are simply trying to educate other people’s dipshit kids for the betterment of society.

DeAngelis is coming to Columbus at the behest of the Center for Christian Virtue, which, a week after successfully suborning the Ohio Legislature to try to kill the proposed Abortion Amendment, is renewing its assault to pass the odious “Backpack Bill.”

The cost of that bill would be $1 to $2 billion. You read that right. It was a top priority of the Center for Christian Virtue crowd for that two months they thought State Rep. Derek Merrin (R-Monclova Twp.) would be the next Speaker of the Ohio House.

Something called the “Parents Alliance of Ohio,” which is based in Austin, Texas, has already launched attack ads on the 22 Republicans who successfully backed State Rep. Jason Stephens (R-Kitts Hill) in the Speaker’s race.

The ads attack Speaker Stephens as a “puppet of the Teachers Unions” and also feature images of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris because nobody has more disdain for the intelligence of Republican voters than their party’s campaign operatives.

The Backpack Bill, as currently written, is dead on arrival due to cost. It would also hurt rural public schools, where charter schools don’t exist. School choice also does nothing for students that have parents who don’t care.

None of that will matter to the Center for Christian Virtue crowd, which includes home-school geeky freaks and rich kids educated at private institutions. None of them give a damn about the 90 percent of Ohio students that attend public schools.

Thankfully, there are some Republicans that were publicly educated. State Reps. Jon Cross (R-Kenton), Jay Edwards (R-Nelsonville) and Sara Carruthers (R-Hamilton) are three that come to mind.

Speaker Stephens (R-Kitts Hill) also understands the importance of public schools in rural areas of the state. And none of them are in a hurry to screw over public schools in order to please the Holy Roller Caucus.

That time Mean Jean’s top aide financed an abortion for his mistress…

State Rep. "Mean” Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland) is one of the most rabid forced-birth Republicans in the Statehouse.

Last year, for example, she called carrying a rapist’s baby “an opportunity” for women.

Quite the language for somebody who knowingly employed somebody who financed an abortion for their mistress.

But that’s precisely what former campaign manager and Congressional aide Joe Braun did. Unfortunately for him, his mistress recorded him admitting everything about the sordid afraid, right down to when he threatened to kill himself if she didn’t get the abortion—a very Christian thing to do.

Braun also weathered a scandal in 2005 when, as the manager of Schmidt’s “family values” Congressional campaign, he got exposed as “deanofcorn,” BDSM forum user who billed himself as an “experienced Dom seeking a sub for long-term exploration and training,” including medical exams and wax play.

People googled this AOL account and apparently found that the same email account being used for the Schmidt campaign was also being used for a profile on a BDSM (bondage, discipline, sadomasochism -- think of the pawn shop in Pulp Fiction) website used by freaks to meet other freaks.

The smoking gun appears to be the fact that this profile was removed within a couple of hours after it had been linked to Joe Braun on the blogs.

Jean Schmidt's family values campaign is nothing by crass hypocrisy if her Campaign Manager is a pervert.
