The game remains the same
Shayla Favor set for ethically dubious fundraiser, national Democrats scapegoat Ohio to close ranks around Sleepy Joe Biden, and Columbus Police went to Wisconsin and killed a Black man.
Observant readers might have noticed that I haven’t peddled any merchandise lately.
I wanted to move the production from Etsy and Printify to a local operator. And, like most things in my life, I did nothing to achieve that goal. But then, like most things in my life, the skies opened, and God answered my prayers.
Local sensation Morgan Hughes of the Supporter Supply Company, headquartered in my beloved Franklinton neighborhood, approached me with a business opportunity I couldn’t refuse.
As such, you can now purchase all Rooster merchandise through this exclusive link, which is also at the top of the blog when viewed on your preferred internet browser:
Fans of our classic merchandise, don’t fret! The Supporter Supply Company will soon transfer those designs to the new storefront.
Be sure to watch this space for news on classic releases and any new designs that emerge from the diseased wasteland that serves as my mind.
But as always, the best way to support The Rooster and help put psychic damage on Ohio’s political hobgoblin cartel is to join the fabled Patriots Caucus.
There’s a presidential election coming this fall with one of the most despicable humans imaginable on the Republican ticket.
Why not lock in during the dog days of summer to ensure you never miss a beat from the largest independent voice in Ohio politics?
What the Hell is Shayla Favor doing?
I didn’t vote for Columbus Councilwoman Shayla Favor for Franklin County Prosecutor in March’s Democratic primary.
She has no experience as a criminal lawyer. She’s never spent any time in a courtroom.
I was under no illusions about her opponent, Anthony Pierson, being some progressive agent of change. But given that Franklin County’s current prosecutor, Democrat Gary Tyack, has basically been dead throughout his first and only term, I’d have thought having somebody with proven competence would have been a welcomed change of pace.
Democratic primary voters in Franklin County disagreed with me, sending Favor to the cusp of the prosecutorial office by four thousand votes more than Pierson.
As I said in the post-election debrief, I’d love to be wrong about Councilwoman Favor. I’d love to believe some of her campaign rhetoric.
Unfortunately, I’ve been around this city long enough to know that talking nice on the campaign trail is the easy part. And frankly, Favor has done nothing on City Council to make me think she’d be any different than that deadbeat Tyack.
Yesterday, a patriot forwarded me an invite to a Favor fundraiser tomorrow night at High Beck, a well-known watering hole of the local Democratic machine.
There are some interesting names on the host list, to say the least:
Adam Nemann: Criminal defense attorney.
Antone White: Director of Franklin County Board of Elections
Fred Benton, criminal defense attorney.
Sam Shamansky, criminal defense attorney.
Joe Landusky, criminal defense attorney.
Mark Collins, criminal defense attorney.
Ben Luftman, criminal defense attorney.
Jeremy Dodgion, criminal defense attorney.
Marty Midian, criminal defense attorney.
Brendan Inscho, criminal defense attorney.
Kaitlyn Stephens, criminal defense attorney.
There is nothing inherently illegal about defense attorneys trying to grease their relationship with the local prosecutor by hosting a fundraiser. However, it’s not as Favor needs the money; her election is assured this fall thanks to the (D) next to her name.
The race that mattered happened in March when roughly 27,000 voters selected the representation for a county with a population of 1.3 million. Everybody on that list already knows that.
But again, is it ethical for Franklin County’s next prosecutor to solicit cash from lawyers she’ll ostensibly oppose in her next line of work? These lawyers could have donated their cash and kept it moving.
Mark Collins and Kaitlyn Stephens, two of the criminal defense attorneys on that list, are notable since they have become the go-to defenders of local police accused (and some convicted) of murdering citizens.
Some of their killer clients include:
Andrew Mitchell, a former Vice cop currently serving 11 years for violating victims’ civil rights, though he escaped conviction for the murder of Donna Castleberry.
Jason Meade, a former Franklin County sheriff’s deputy, is currently awaiting his second trial for shooting Casey Goodson Jr. in the back six times while he entered his grandmother’s home while carrying a bag of Subway sandwiches.
Adam Coy, a former Columbus cop awaiting trial in October for the shooting death of Andre’ Hill in his family’s garage, mere seconds after Coy arrived on the scene.
Gotta say this doesn’t strike me as a move of a candidate seriously concerned with reforming the Franklin County prosecutor’s office. It seems like the move of a candidate intent on maintaining the status quo, right down to overcharging suspects and then using dropped charges as a bargaining chip to force plea deals.
And what does this portend for future defendants with public defenders or lawyers not rich enough to spend thousands of dollars on a fundraiser for a candidate who doesn’t need the money?
Favor would no doubt claim she’ll call balls and strikes regardless, but that relies upon us being naive about human nature.
National Democrats are scapegoating Ohio to close the ranks around Sleepy Joe Biden
A well-respected labor lobbyist told me last month that their group had informed the national Democratic Party in February about Ohio’s Aug. 7th deadline for nominating Joe Biden if they wanted him to appear on the ballot.
