The Discord Group of Terroristic Ohio National Guardsmen Should Be A Bigger Story
There are clearly some radical forces at work within an institution meant to protect every citizen in times of war and peace.
Perhaps you read back on March 31 about Thomas Develin, the Ohio National Guardman and security guard in Columbus at a Jewish school who got arrested for making online anti-Semitic threats against students.
Perhaps that same day, you read the more comical story about James Meade II, the Ohio National Guardsman arrested for threatening to do a 9-11 to an Anheuser-Busch factory along the northern outer belt of Columbus.
Both stories made national news, and, as seemingly required by federal law, were as shameful and embarrassing in reflection of our state.
These stories, however, weren’t unrelated. Develin and Meade knew each other and were radicalized in a Discord group chat “whose members are largely part of the Ohio National Guard.”
I feel like the Ohio National Guard have a chat where terrorist bombings and mass shooters were open topics of discussion should be a much bigger story than a throwaway line in a local media story, even before realizing Develin and Meade were producing ghost guns they intended to sell:
ATF agents said Columbus police executed a search warrant on Develin's Brentwood Circle apartment where they found multiple firearms along with a 3D printer used to make ghost guns, which are privately made firearms without serial numbers.
The search warrant said Develin later admitted to agents that he began making ghost guns around 2020 with the intent to sell them for profit.
Develin claimed he only sold to people he knew and did not advertise them online. He said he knew law enforcement may be coming for him a couple of days before charges were filed so he went to a cabin that reportedly belonged to Meade in Chesterhill, Ohio, to hide multiple ghost guns, a bump stock, an unfinished firearm frame, and a Military Improvised Explosive Devices instruction manual.
He told agents he then returned to the cabin the next day to burn the illegal firearms parts.
Agents reported recovering items burned in a fire pit as well as four firearms with no serial numbers, firearms parts and accessories, a Glock firearm barrel with a serial number, two improvised munitions handbooks, and one firearm magazine.
Weird how Develin “knew” that the police “may be coming for him a couple days before charges were filed.” Little doubt he got tipped off by somebody.
As alarming as this story is, think about how much we would know about these guys if they weren’t dumb enough to post their plots on social media? They had an armory of ghost guns, and every American is unfortunately familiar how much carnage one psychopath, let alone two, can cause with military-grade weapons And these two had some actual training, too.
The Ohio National Guard has always been disgraceful and should have been disbanded when they shot four Kent State students to death in 1970 for having the audacity to rightfully protest the disgraceful quagmire in Vietnam.
During the Omicron surge in January, nearly half the Guard couldn’t be deployed to short-staffed hospitals because they were unvaccinated.
Today we learn there’s an untold number of them participating in a Discord chat that allows discussion on terrorist attacks and mass shootings. And these fellas are supposed to be the well-regulated wing of the militia, which now in Ohio includes any jackass off the street who wants to conceal a weapon on a trip to the gas station.
In a normal state, there would be investigations into the current culture of the Ohio National Guard. How deep do these fringe elements run? Senior officials and offending members would be exposed and sacked. The recruitment screening process would be tightened.
But in Ohio, we know none of that will happen. Our governor is much more interested in sending them to “the border” as a campaign stunt to do fuck all against the stream of migrants and drugs that will come across our border until the end of time.
Doesn’t take a genius to see how this ends at some point down the road.
