We Let Another Republican Steal A Judgeship in Columbus
Once again, the Franklin County Democratic Party fails to win an important judicial race.
Columbus is a Democrat-ran city, which means as far as local government is concerned, Republicans should be relegated to the sewers to bitch about living in one of three areas in the state where they have no power.
The Franklin County Democratic Party (FCDP) is as a well-oiled political machine as you’ll see in the 21st century, like when then-City Council President Andy Ginther got promoted to mayor despite getting caught almost literally red-handed in a pay-for-play corruption scheme with a traffic light ticketing agency.
The City Council has engaged in the farce of one member resigning with months on the term, the Council appointing their replacement, and then that newest stooge off the assembly line gets to run as an incumbent in the next election. Property value voters lap this gruel up like piglets in elections that barely crack 25% turnout.
But there is one area where the local party has gotten sloppy in culling the last vestiges of Republican power in Franklin County: the judgeships.
Environmental Judge Stephanie Mingo and Municipal Court Judge Gina R. Russo—both Republicans—miraculously avoided their deserved retirement from public life in last year’s local elections.
Neither of them are highly viewed by their colleagues, either, with Mingo registering 3.36 stars and Russo with a slightly more respectable 3.9 stars on the 1-5 scale doled out by the Columbus Bar Association’s Judicial Performance Polls.
Those reprieves, however, pale in comparison to the latest judicial travesty that occurred Tuesday night when Judge Julie Lynch, a longtime Republican campaigning as a Democrat for the first time, won re-election, over FCDP-sanctioned candidate Michael J. Boyle.
Lynch claimed she left the Republican Party due to revulsion with President Trump, the guy who did the exact same stuff as every other Republican asshole we’ve had since we elected that demon Ronald Reagan.
Her sudden jolt of conscience coincidentally occurred right in time to save her job, too. It’s been a common theme from Republican judges in Columbus, with Domestic Relations/Juvenile Judge Kim Browne and Municipal Court Judge Jim O’Grady also changing party affiliations in the last year.
The Rooster doesn’t think the local party should fall for such antics from power-hungry people with no principles.
The FCDP at least did not endorse Judge Lynch. But this is anecdotal from talks with other politically poisoned people like The Rooster, and Lynch—the Republican campaigning as a Democrat—sent more mailers than any other Democratic candidate, including those running for Senate and Governor.
Oh, and she also lied about having an endorsement from the Building Trades Association in one of her flyers.
Is she even a well-respected judge within her profession of cocaine-addicted neurotic freaks? No. She scored the lowest score by a large margin, with 3.21 stars, in the 2020 Judicial Performance Poll by the Columbus Bar Association:
For people who don’t like reading from tables, here are Lynch’s individual ratings:
Objectivity: 3.12
Judicial Temperament: 2.92
Legla Knowledge: 3.4
Quality of Opinions: 3.28
Timeliness: 3.55
Sentencing: 3.06
Overall: 3.21
The Rooster would assume that the sachems of the Franklin County Democratic Party would tell their faithful voters that races for judge matter. These people have serious influence over the lives of others. We wish they would save the lecture and show that they understand how important these races are.
There is no reason for there to be a single elected Republican in Columbus. And with as many talented, left-leaning lawyers in this god-forsaken city, there should be no reason to ever accept a Republican turncoat only changing parties to save their job.
But as usual, the FCDP proves much more adept and ruthless at organizing against leftists than they do conservative charlatans like Judge Lynch. But at least this embarrassment will no doubt be washed away at their next cocktail junket. Not like any of them will suffer the consequences for this failure.
THOSE WMDs. Wife of judge who dismissed Strauss case had $313K flag contract with Ohio State… Price kids pay: Schools and police punish students with costly tickets for minor misbehavior… What happens when you quit all sugar… He is 5’7” and after surgery he’ll be 5’10”.
Hi DJ! This is more of a general response to all the events being held during Ohio's impromptu "Crap on Democracy" Week: "3 Reasons Why the Ohio Republican Party Should Get Nan Whaley Elected to Governor" ONE: Untoppable slap in the face to DeWine {"Hey, Mike- you lost to a WOMAN??"); TWO: People will forget about the Redistrcting Issue ("If a Democrat could get elected to such an important statewide office, the system *must* work blahblahblah..."); THREE: Whaley won't actually be able to do anything of note in Columbus in her sole term as Governor except sigh and flutter her eyelashes as she watches the usual slew of B&Rs become law despite her vetoes. BTW, Keep up the good work!
