The Rooster

With Democrats like these

An attack on civic-minded citizens enjoyed bipartisan support thanks to one Democratic Senator's years-long personal vendetta against a form of voting not currently used anywhere in the state.

The Ohio House of Representatives passed a ban on municipalities using ranked choice voting to decide elections on Wednesday.

It’s the anti-democracy boot on our necks that even a casual observer of the Ohio Republican junta has come to expect. But it’s galling to see State Senator Theresa Gavaarone (R-Hell) being able to use the word “bipartisan” because of her shared vendetta with State Senator Bill Demora (D-Columbus).

The Rooster litigated this matter with DeMora in Nov. 2023 when he fell back on a defense that amounted to the citizenry being too dumb to grasp an arcane concept like ranked choice voting:

You would never see a Republican legislator standing in solidarity with Democrats to stick a thumb in the eye of their base.

It was dumb for DeMora to engage in this behavior in 2023. But it’s especially galling to do it with Donald Trump in office during a week in which “anti-voting activists” (what a phrase) are circulating a conspiracy theory of Chinese interference in the 2020 election while asking the president to take emergency powers to end free and fair elections in America.

I don’t need to text DeMora to know would feel that’s an unfair comparison, but I stand by my belief:

If he’ll collaborate with Republicans to strip voting rights from democracy-minded citizens, why should he be trusted to stand on the vanguard against the Ohio Republican Party and Trump’s never-ending assault on voting rights?
