Where in the World is Henry Hoeft?
The Boogaloo Boy promised he would stay in Ukraine for "as long as it took." That turned out to be 72 hours.
Henry Hoeft, a far-right extremist from Ohio, recently duped The Columbus Dispatch into continuing the long tradition of American media soft peddling the romantic notion of traumatized combat veterans looking to fight as a mercenary in a foreign war for humanitarian reasons.
The Rooster covered the original debacle as well as The Dispatch’s inadequate correction in subscriber-only posts, if you’re looking for a reason to join the fabled Patriots Caucus for as low as $6.66 a month:
While it doesn’t take a soothsayer to understand why a militia freak wanting to travel halfway across the world to fight as a mercenary in a brutal war to hone skills he can bring back home, Hoeft got to pretend he was a noble warrior embarking on a quest to fight evil:
“The reason I feel like we’re doing the right thing is that in this conflict, there really aren’t two sides,” Hoeft said. “There’s bipartisan support for the Ukrainian people and support across countries. For me, that’s evidence that we’re doing the right thing.”
[…]
"I hope that the war will end tomorrow, but I will be there for as long as it takes," Hoeft said.
Hilariously, Hoeft did not stay in Ukraine as “long as it took.” In fact, he cut and ran at the earliest opportunity.
In a viral video, Hoeft claimed that he was threatened with execution for insubordination when the Ukrainians tried to send him to actually fight in the war he volunteered to join. Hoeft also claimed that the Ukrainians were hiding the number of foreign fighters left dead after a Russian airstrike on their base.
Hoeft claimed to have escaped the area in the back of an ambulance with two other fighters. At the border, he disguised himself as a Red Cross worker and ditched his military gear after he claims he was told that the Ukrainians would cut up his Passport and send him back to the front:
Hoeft is a combat veteran who served in Iraq and reportedly earned a Purple Heart. But it must have caught him by surprise that fighting as a foot soldier in the most well-financed army in the history of the world is a bit different than fighting alongside a scrappy Ukrainian against a traditional military power like Russia.
We have learned, however, that Hoeft is not a reliable narrator. And while tales of Ukrainians trapping foreigners and using them as meat shields against the Russians make for lurid propaganda, there are two sources on the ground who contradict Hoeft.
The first is with the Georgia Legion, who said Hoeft and another individual hadn’t cleared the vetting process needed to join “direct action groups.”
The mentioning of Hoeft’s alias, “Henry Locke,” is interesting in that it means people in Ukraine must have heard about the scumbag trying to join their ranks. But at the end of the day, I don’t know that guy. It could be anyone looking to put out the fire caused by Hoeft.
The second video is much more damning as it comes from Mike Dunn, another well-known Boogaloo Boy (who claims to have left the group in 2021). Dunn traveled with Ukraine to fight alongside Hoeft, and he posted his own video in which he too contradicts the incendiary parts of his colleague’s testimony without calling him a lying rat:
Hoeft has deleted his social media. And it raises questions of what happened to all the money he raised.
GiveSendGo lists his $5,000 goal as “completely raised.” And hell, he got a $1,000 donation two days ago—when he was already on his way out Ukraine! Hard to envision how that money could’ve helped 40 veterans travel to Poland, as Hoeft claimed on his page.
This has been a total P.R. disaster for the Boogaloo Boys. This guy was one of their leaders. And he got clowned out of Ukraine in under 72 hours because it turns out using violence against government forces is a lot harder than posting memes on the internet for clout among fellow militia cretins. You don’t just come back from something like that when one of your “brothers” stayed behind to fight.
The lesson here is do not enlist as a mercenary in a foreign war if you are not content to die far from home. Anything else makes you look like a coward. Henry Hoeft is evidence of that.
THOSE WMDs. Dentist broke patients’ teeth to fix them, made millions… This St. Patrick’s Day, you should watch The Fugitive… How to attract owls to your lawn… The 1980s moral panic over Dungeons.& Dragons… Mavis Beacon was the top typing instructor in America, then she vanished.
Real men make an attempt to fight for their country.
Pussies that squat when they piss (D.J. Byrnes) whine and complain.
Byrnes, you mock your "Boogaloo Boy" when you yourself are absent of ALL MALE GENETALIA.
COWARDS mock those who attempt and perhaps fail.
YOU HAVE ZERO CLASS, thus you will NEVER win any meaningful election.
